DMS and ADAS Smart Cameras: AI-Powered Road Safety

Human error remains the greatest risk

According to the World Health Organization, over 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human error. Fatigue, distraction, cell phone use — behaviors that happen in seconds but can have irreversible consequences. For companies with fleets, every accident represents not only a human tragedy but also operational, legal, and reputational costs that can threaten business continuity.

Endeavant technology addresses this problem with two complementary artificial intelligence systems: DMS (Driver Monitoring System) to watch over the driver, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) to monitor the road. Both operate in real time, recording in Full HD 1080p and transmitting alerts via 4G to the Endeavant Cloud platform.

DMS: artificial intelligence watching over the driver

The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) uses a camera with integrated AI processing, facing the operator. The DMS camera (model A058-DMS04) analyzes facial patterns and driver behavior in real time to detect more than 6 alert types:

  • Fatigue and drowsiness: closed eyes, frequent yawning, head nodding — the camera identifies the first signs of microsleep before they turn into an accident. Differentiates between mild fatigue and severe fatigue to escalate the response.
  • Cell phone use: immediate detection when the driver holds the device to their ear or looks at it while driving. One of the most lethal distractions on the road.
  • Visual distraction: prolonged gaze away from the road, conversation with passengers, or any sustained attention diversion. The system classifies distraction into two severity levels (N1 and N2).
  • Smoking: identification of smoking behavior, particularly relevant in vehicles transporting hazardous or flammable materials.
  • Camera obstruction: alerts when the DMS camera is covered or blocked, whether intentionally or accidentally, ensuring the system is always operational.
  • Driver absence: detects when there is no driver in the seat with the engine running, or when an unregistered driver change occurs.

For each event, the system triggers an audible alarm inside the cabin and activates a vibration motor installed in the driver's seat for immediate physical correction. Simultaneously, the alert with video evidence is sent in real time via 4G to the Endeavant Cloud platform. Event videos are stored for a full year on the platform for traceability and training.

ADAS: electronic eyes on the road

The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) uses a dedicated front-facing camera (model A358-ADAS03) that analyzes the road in real time with AI processing. Its capabilities include:

  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW): detects when the distance to the vehicle ahead decreases dangerously and warns the driver with enough time to react. Works at highway speeds and in urban traffic.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW): identifies when the vehicle drifts from its lane without signaling, frequently associated with fatigue or distraction. Differentiates between left and right departure.
  • Headway Monitoring Warning (HMW): continuously measures following distance to the vehicle ahead and alerts when it is insufficient for safe braking at the current speed.
  • Pedestrian detection: identifies people on the road, at crossings, and in pedestrian areas, triggering preventive alerts. Includes speeding detection in crosswalk zones and imminent pedestrian collision alerts.

The ADAS system also integrates an accelerometer that detects aggressive driving maneuvers: harsh acceleration, sudden braking, sharp left and right turns. These events feed the driving score within the driver ranking system.

Three models for every operational need

Endeavant technology is available in three configurations, each with its own level of capability and coverage:

  • Avant 3 — Entry-level system: centered on the DMS camera with integrated AI processing. Supports up to 3 video channels with storage on SD cards up to 256 GB. Includes vibration motor as a physical alert. Compatible with ADAS camera and cabin IPC camera as additional options. Ideal for fleets seeking driver monitoring without dedicated MDVR investment, with the ability to scale to Avant 5 or Avant 8 in the future.
  • Avant 5 — Mid-range system: dedicated 5-channel MDVR with SD storage up to 1 TB (approximately 2 weeks of continuous recording). Integrates DMS PRO with advanced biometric facial recognition, ADAS, side cameras for blind spots, cabin camera, and BSD radar support. Cabin display available for visual driver alerts. Typical configuration includes DMS PRO + ADAS + right side + left side. The right balance between coverage and cost for cargo transport fleets.
  • Avant 8 — Premium system: 8-channel MDVR with expanded disk and SD storage up to 2.5 TB. Full 360° coverage with DMS PRO, ADAS, cabin camera, dump body camera, reverse camera, side cameras, and BSD radar. Cabin display and panic button with emergency GPS alert. Remote 4G/WiFi transmission with integrated GPS and accelerometer. Designed for demanding mining operations with trucks like CAT 793 and 789, where full vehicle visibility is non-negotiable.

Ecosystem components

All models share a compatible component ecosystem that allows configuring the exact solution each operation needs:

  • DMS Camera (A058-DMS04): high-precision sensor with embedded AI for fatigue, distraction, and driver behavior detection.
  • ADAS Camera (A358-ADAS03): front-facing camera with intelligent processing for collision, lane, distance, and pedestrian alerts.
  • BSD Radar: detection of vehicles and people in blind spots using radar technology.
  • Cabin Display: screen that shows real-time visual alerts to the driver.
  • Vibration Motor: physical alert installed in the seat that wakes the driver during fatigue events.

All connected to Endeavant Cloud

Every alert generated by DMS or ADAS is sent in real time to Endeavant Cloud, the web platform that centralizes all safety data. From any device with a browser — no software installation required — fleet managers can review alerts with event video, classify alerts as true or false positives, check driver rankings, and download videos for training or legal proceedings. The platform handles more than 29 alert types organized into 4 categories: DMS, ADAS, Blind Spots, and Aggressive Driving.

The return on investment is tangible

Companies that deploy Endeavant smart cameras report reductions of up to 70% in fatigue and distraction events within the first 3 months. The combination of immediate audible alarm, physical vibration, and platform-based follow-up drives sustained behavioral change. The driver ranking creates an additional incentive: operators compete to stay at the top, transforming safety from an obligation into a culture.

Fewer accidents means lower repair costs, lower insurance premiums, less downtime, and most importantly, drivers who make it home. For corporate clients like Komatsu, Servosa, or Marcobre, having an active prevention system with video evidence is also a compliance requirement that Endeavant resolves end to end.
